This weekend, starting this evening, "Churches Together in Scarborough" are holding a "Spring Tide Conference" with Dr R.T. Kendall from Florida in the U.S.A. speaking on the theme "The Fullness of Christ". There are three evening celebration services and two Saturday seminars. The ecumenical organisation covers all the denominations through from Roman Catholics to Pentecostalists. Church leaders are convinced that the contemporary need is for revival and that preaching and prayer is the historic route by which Christians can prepare for it.
R. T. Kendall
Dr R T Kendall was the pastor of Westminster Chapel in London, England, for twenty-five years. Born in Ashland, Kentucky on July 13, 1935, he was educated at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) at Regent's Park College, a hall of the University of Oxford. While there, he was also Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Lower Heyford from 1974 to 1977 (now Brackley Baptist Church) which mainly served USAF families based at RAF Upper Heyford and RAF Croughton. He is well-known internationally as a Christian speaker and teacher.
He is universally referenced by his initials RT; his full name is Robert Tillman Kendall.
From February 1, 1977 to February 1, 2002 he was Senior Minster at Westminster Chapel in London. He followed the pastorate of Dr Martyn Lloyd-Jones, who himself remained in the church from 1977 until his death in 1981.
Dr Kendall is now in retirement in Key Largo, Florida, but remains actively involved in Christian writing and speaking at conferences.
In 2002 he was introduced by the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Envoy to the Middle East to meet the Palestinal leader Yasser Arafat. Subsequently the men met on a number of occasions.
Statement of Faith
This Statement of Faith and Principles is a broad evangelical declaration that closely parallels the content of the Gospel presentation in the Evangelism Explosion training manual and the concepts considered vital for the furthering of this ministry.
1. The Bible is the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative word of God.
2. There is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
3. Our Lord Jesus Christ is God and man in one person. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, performed miracles, vicariously atoned for sin through His shed blood and death. He was bodily resurrected from the dead. He ascended to the right hand of God the Father and will personally return in power and glory.
4. Regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for the salvation of lost and sinful man.
5. Eternal life is received by faith - that is, trusting in Jesus Christ alone for salvation.
6. The Holy Spirit indwells all true believers and enables them to live a godly life.
7. Both the saved and the lost will be resurrected from the dead; the saved unto the resurrection of life and the lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
8. There is a spiritual unity of all true believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
9. The local church is the primary God-established base of operation for evangelistic activity in the world.
10. Every true believer is commissioned by Christ to "preach the Gospel to every creature" and to "make disciples of all nations".
11. Inexperienced witnesses are best enabled to share the Gospel by participation in discipleship groups that include practical experience in actual witnessing situations led by a more experienced witness.
Our Vision
We are living in the very last days.
A genuine Awakening is coming to the Church.
Power will be given: to his chosen vessels, like in the Book of Acts.
The Word and the Spirit must come together, the result will be power.
Expository preaching is vital to all ministry of the Holy Spirit.
Our motives must be devoted entirely to the glory of God.
We will see God move in proportion to our total forgiveness of one another. Jesus said "How can you believe if you accept praise from one another, yet make no effort to obtain the praise that comes from the only God?" John 5:44
I want to inspire people to desire to see the praise that comes from one and only true God. Above all else. This is what God has laid on my heart and the message that I bring to you.
