A Prayer at Sunrise

One of the great gifts of living here on the South Cliff at Scarborough, five floors up, is the view of the bay and the sea. For those of us who rise early we are greatly blessed by the glories of the sunrises and the sunsets. BBC Castaways were similarly gifted in the location of their New Zealand island home. Some of them would get up early just to see the sun rise. John Craig has composed a prayer to match the mood.

Lord, thank you for the HOPE that
sunrise brings, reminding us that
the darkness is always followed by your light.

Lord, thank you for the BEAUTY of the
sunrise that tells of your eye for detail
and your power to create in a way
that man cannot hope to imitate.

Lord, thank you for the JOY that sunrise
brings because it reminds us of your
constant love and faithfulness.
Every new day comes the dawn telling
of your reliability and consistency.

Lord, thank you for the GIFT of sunrise.
We receive it without having to make
payment. The gift is given equally to all.
In this respect, sunrise reminds us of the
gift of a redeeming Saviour in Jesus.
