‘Rejoice always!’
1 Thessalonians 5.16
Reflection
In prayer we rejoice to align our wills to God’s will and so participate in the fulfilment of God’s purpose. Isaiah calls on the people to find joy in the promise of new life.
In the sending of the 70 Jesus entrusted the good news of the kingdom and power over evil, given to him by the Father, to his disciples. Their return is joyful – even fearsome evil had been overcome. Jesus too rejoices in the Holy Spirit.
Paul calls on the Thessalonians to rejoice always that God’s purpose of redemption will be fulfilled through their obedience as they pray without ceasing.
Prayer
God, perfect unity, keep our hearts so burning with the desire and hope for unity that we will never stop working for the sake of your gospel. We ask this through Jesus Christ. Amen.
Action
Identify forms of evil in the world today, possibly critical damage to the environment. How could you be involved in raising awareness?
