“IS THIS pew taken?” and “You float my ark” are just two of a top-100 list of embarrassing chat-up lines to avoid, a Christian dating website reports. The painful pick-up ploys were put forward by members of the Christian Connection site, which last week held a dating workshop to encourage members to ignore the one-liners.
Other godly opening gambits to avoid include: “I just don’t feel called to celibacy”, “My parents are home, wanna come over?” and “I didn’t believe in predestination until tonight.”
Jackie Elton, the founder of Christian Connection, said that Christians often feel “conflicted” about dating. “For years, they have been told not to focus too much on outward appearance — that if somebody is a soulmate, it should all come naturally. On the other hand, in a Christian Connection poll, 60 per cent admitted they were attracted first by eye contact and smiles rather than people’s minds.”
Other examples of introductions to avoid include:
• “The name is Will. God’s Will.”
• “How many times do I have to
walk around you before you fall
for me?”
• “Now I know why Solomon had
700 wives. He never met you.”
