Mother always claimed that family members were here for the opening of the Marine Drive a century ago. It must have been my grandparents or greatgrandparents.
Driving the celebrations

MARINE Drive is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a special programme of events tomorrow.
The day will begin with a ceremony to unveil a series of plaques which tell the story of how the Drive was constructed.The series of acrylic information boards from the Sands to Sandside will also feature old photographs. The plaques will be unveiled by Scarborough’s mayor, Cllr Eileen Vickers, who will leave the Sands Corner on a vintage coach with the mayoral procession at 10.45am.
Attractions around Royal Albert Gardens from noon will include live music, Punch and Judy shows, dancers, displays by Scarborough Scouts and Guides, face painting by Surestart, traction engines and a fire engine.Every child who comes along in fancy dress will receive a small gift.
