The former child actor, who featured alongside Hugh Grant in the film Night Train to Venice when she was eight years old, beat runner-up Mikey Hughes to take the title.

Rice, 24, from Torfaen in south Wales, was an on-off favourite all night, after the bookies found the result impossible to call.

When her name was announced, Rice said "Oh my God, no way" before hugging Mikey and telling him "I love you so much."

Rice then guided the blind 33-year-old radio producer to the Big Brother door and told him to be careful of the steps.

She won the reality show with 51.3 per cent of the public vote.

Speaking to host Davina McCall after the show, she said: "I've learnt to be true to who you are. People can try and tell you you're fake and try and break you down. I know who I am, it's fine."

Albino Darnell Swallow was the first housemate to be evicted in last night's final followed by Chef Rex Newmark and Australian Sara Folino.

Folino will not go home empty handed as last week she won £25,000 during a game.

Rice claims she quit acting after Grant told her to finish her education.

As a child she starred in numerous adverts and was the little girl who found fairies at the bottom of the garden in the Sony Handicam commercial in 1992.

Rachel's Bio

Rachel is a former child actor, who featured alongside Hugh Grant in the film Night Train to Venice when she was eight years old. Filming in Rome, she says Grant even organised her eighth birthday party. Rachel went on to perform in three other films and over 20 commercials, but eventually stopped acting because she says she had to choose between acting and education, and Hugh Grant suggested she get her qualifications first.

A fitness fanatic, Rachel trains at the gym five times a week and runs 10 miles a week. She believes people should eat more healthily, and that the government needs to reduce the price of fruit and get rid of ready meals so people will be encouraged to cook and eat more healthily. A former local beauty pageant winner, she went on to be crowned runner up in a Miss Wales competition the year Big Brother 7's Imogen Thomas won.

Rachel - who says her nicknames include "bossyboots" and "grotbags" - says her mum is her best friend but that she wants to be on Big Brother to "cut the apron strings" as she's a bit of a home girl. She also wants to be on Big Brother to represent "pretty, intelligent alpha females".

Michael's Bio

When Michael (Mikey) was 23 he lost his sight whilst undergoing an operation and has now been blind for 10 years. Mikey works as a radio producer for a blind radio station called 'Radio Insight' and in 2007 was part of a team that won a Sony Radio Academy Award. He is extremely proud of his career and feels privileged to be doing what he does. If he won a million pounds he would like to quit his job and write radio plays and books, plus buy a pet pig!

Mikey describes himself as wacky, zany and non-conformist and considers his best ability is to make others laugh. His favourite party trick is to do stand-up comedy whilst dressed up in girls' clothes.

Mikey decided to audition for Big Brother this year as in the past people could smoke in the house and he dislikes the smell of smoke due to his acute sense of smell. He hopes his time in the Big Brother house will help him to be more tolerant of people and would like to come across as an entertaining housemate and not boring or a grumbler.
