Residents are moving into the Church of England Pensions Board’s showpiece retirement home Manormead Supported Housing at Hindhead near Haslemere in Surrey - but a number of flats are still available.
Offering superb accommodation for retired Church of England clergy, their spouses and clergy widows and widowers, the newly rebuilt Manormead - comprising 28 individual flats, chapel, library, communal lounge and dining room - combines support, including overnight emergency cover, with independent living.
Communual meals are provided in the dining room, but residents' flats have their own fully fitted kitchen and generous living space.
Complete with beautiful gardens and fully equipped for the disabled, Manormead is becoming a thriving Christian community, with regular worship, stimulating conversation and activities, all in the comfort of an airy, modern, purpose-built scheme.
The home was officially opened by the Archbishop of Canterbury, The Most Revd Dr Rowan Williams, on 25 February 2008 at a special ceremony which was also attended by the Bishop of Guildford, Rt Revd Christopher Hill.
Manormead Care Home (with Nursing)
Manormead is the Board's Registered Care Home (with nursing) situated at Hindhead in Surrey. Note: For Manormead Supported Housing Complex click here.
The original building dates back to the 1920’s but was completely refurbished, modernised and extended in 1999. It now has accommodation for 34 patients in single or double rooms, each with en-suite toilet facilities. Manormead Care Home is registered with the National Care Standards Commission, now reporting to the Commission for Social Care Inspectorate, ensuring a first-class service to our patients.
At Manormead the staff strive to maintain dignity, individuality, independence and privacy. Care is provided for individuals who are unable to meet their own health care needs through disability or infirmity and who require continuous intervention. The daily use of 'care plans' addresses the specific needs of the patients with interventions designed in the light of current knowledge.
Specialist Bathing Facilities
Further support is available from the GPs and physiotherapist who visit Manormead twice weekly.
Maintaining health through physiotherapy
Manormead does not have an EMI unit and therefore is unfortunately unable to accept those individuals who are 'Elderly Mentally Infirm'.
Manormead has its own hair dressing salon and physiotherapy room as well as an Activities Co-ordinator who provides a timetable of activities that are both enjoyable and stimulating for all the patients. Activities take place in group or one-to-one sessions and include indoor gardening, painting, reminiscing, board games, gentle exercise, music hall and other individual interests.
Gardening is not limited to outdoors at Manormead
Manormead is a Christian community and the chapel, dedicated to St Mark, is an important part of the community's life. The Eucharist is celebrated three times a week. Once a week Communion is taken to those patients who wish to receive it but cannot be present at the service.
The Friends of Manormead was formed in 1977 and is a group of local volunteers. Among other activities they provide a shopping and library service to the patients. They are also involved in fund raising for the home.
Responsibility for the day-to-day running of the home and the care of the patients is undertaken by a fully qualified Matron who is assisted by a team of experienced Registered General Nurses and care staff.
Much of the countryside around Manormead is owned by the National Trust. Visitors will appreciate the local beauty spots including the Golden Valley and the Devil's Punchbowl. Shopping facilities are available in Beacon Hill, approximately half a mile from the home, with more comprehensive amenities at Grayshott and the market town of Haslemere. There is a main line station at Haslemere with regular services to London, which is about an hour away. Excellent road links via the A3 are within easy reach of Manormead.
