AFTER months of hype and hullaballoo, the waiting is practically over.(Tues-Sat this week)
Lenny Henry is finally coming to Scarborough to play Othello.
Lenny, 50, received good reviews when Northern Broadsides’ production of Shakespeare’s tragedy opened at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds a few weeks ago.
For example, Nick Ahad of the Yorkshire Post said: “His deep resonant voice fills the theatre with absolute ease. It feels like his frame could do the same.
“He is a massive presence and you could easily believe he is a soldier who could run through 20 men with an arm and a dagger, as he later boasts.
“In short, Lenny gives a very acceptable performance, given his experience, and those around him show where he could get to – if he keeps building on this experience.”
After three weeks, the production, directed by Barrie Rutter, finishes in Leeds on Saturday and transfers to the Stephen Joseph Theatre next Tuesday to Saturday.
All the tickets were snapped up almost as soon as they went on sale.
When it quits Scarborough, Lenny and company have a couple of weeks off before the tour proceeds to Coventry, Bath, Kingston in Kent, Newcastle-under-Lyme and Halifax.
