· If you wish us to act for you, we prefer your manuscript to be submitted in digital form - and sent to us as a computer file; by e-mail, or on memory-stick or CD. However, if your manuscript is handwritten, or typed on an old-style typewriter, we can still publish it for you but the cost may be higher as we shall need to retype it or scan it into digital form.
· For various reasons some clients might prefer to be interviewed at home, or elsewhere so their memories and requirements can be recorded. This service is available, but at extra cost depending on the mileage and expenses likely to accrue. From this recording we would produce a manuscript for your approval.
· Once we see your manuscript and we know your requirements, we will negotiate a fixed price with you - this will start from a minimum of £50 depending on the work we assess to be needed. Once we have agreed a fixed fee (which, under present guidelines will be VAT free) we will prepare your book up to a 'first proof copy' stage. This means we will format and layout your publication, set margins and page numbering, format your work into chapters, add a copyright page, allocate an ISBN if required, and prepare a full colour cover. Proof reading is your responsibility but we can undertake this if you wish at extra cost.
· A proof copy of your manuscript will then be sent to you for final approval. This will be a professionally finished, Perfect bound book. Whilst minor amendments can be made at that stage, most should have been picked in earlier stages.
· The price up to this stage, is inclusive in the quotation we give you at the outset. This is likely to undercut competitors as we are retired professionals and our overheads are lower.
· Once you have approved your printed proof copy, your book will be 'locked' and any future alterations will be at additional charge. Once you have approved your proof copy you may order as few or as many books as you wish - from one upwards, but you pay for these and for postage. Your book files will be kept secure so that if, in the future you decide you need further copies, these can easily be provided.
· The price per copy will depend on your choice of binding, format, number of pages and so on, but for a standard black and white printed book with colour Perfect bound cover, with, say 150 pages, the cost could be in the region of £7 a copy. Before you order we will give you a firm price.
· What you then do with your book is up to you. Some clients only want one copy to replace a manuscript which might have laid in a drawer for years and see their book in print.
· Others might have prepared their life-story and want a few copies for members of their family.
· At the other end of the scale some might want to sell their book commercially.
· The choice is yours.
