Lodge Lane, Liverpool

Fifty years ago today I was received into 'full connexion' as a minister at the Methodist Conference being held in the Philharmonic Hall, Hope Street, Liverpool and ordained the same evening at Lodge Lane Methodist Church in the city.

Lodge Lane, Toxteth by Liverpool Suburbia.
The 1960’s brought great change to this part of Loge Lane, the site on the right which is now occupied by an ugly row of shops used to be occupied (up until 1966) by the Lodge Lane Methodist Church which opened in 1885. The building was built to an Italianate design and had two iconic towers which could be seen from many surrounding streets. By 1964, the congregation had dwindled and so the decision was made to merge Lodge Lane with another congregation located on Princes Road. The building was subsequently demolished. The side road off to the left is Coltart Road whilst Lime Grove can be seen leading off to the right.
