SCARBOROUGH'S enterprising team have arrived back with one of the the town's most prestigious and historic awards.
Miss Scarborough, Rachael Cooper, was there to welcome the team back from Prague, where they scooped the title for the most enterprising town in Europe.
Miss Scarborough said: "I am really pleased. It is wonderful for the town and will hopefully attract a lot of new business and jobs to the area.
"I am really proud to be from Scarborough, and proud of everyone who has worked so hard towards the award."
The town's representatives in Prague were Scarborough Council's strategic director David Archer, Cllr Derek Bastiman, the portfolio holder for strategic planning, regeneration, and community partnerships, John Burroughs, former regeneration projects officer at the council, Urban Renaissance manager Nick Taylor, and Andrew Clay, director of Woodend Creative Workspace.
During their time in Prague the team not only attended the award ceremony at the Zofin Place, but they promoted Scarborough during a conference as part of a major European conference which is part of the first European Small and Medium-sized Enterprise Week.
Scarborough Cllr Bastiman said: "It has been an excellent trip culminating in winning the highest accolade possible in the competition.
"I must express my sincere thanks to all those involved in Scarborough's bid, especially Ray Williamson the former head of regeneration, the former council leader Eileen Bosomworth, and the former head of planning Gordon Somerville.
Mr Archer said: "It is a fantastic achievement which shows just how far the town has come. It shows we can compete with the best in Europe.
"Everyone now needs to take advantage of the opportunity that has been created for future investment, and the prestige that the award brings."
Mr Taylor said: "This award means that the town has been propelled back in to the top league of towns in the country.
"It has been hugely positive for the town's image, which will help to attract new companies to relocate to Scarborough. It gives Scarborough much better prospects for the future."
