THE annual Hull to Scarborough Veteran Car Rally gave onlookers a taste of nostalgia at the weekend.
A total of 32 cars took part – the oldest car being a 1901 Curved Dash Oldsmobile and the youngest a 1916 Brasier.

The majority of members stayed at the Ambassador Hotel where Mayor Eileen Vickers met them and they continued on to Peasholm Park for cream cakes and tea.

Organiser Mike Lord, of the Veteran Car Club of Great Britain, said: "The mayor presented the entrants a plaque. We had a lovely day and there was a good selection of cars, from Fords to Singers and Vauxhalls. We had a lot of people watching at Peasholm Park and taking an interest in the cars."

He said the rally did not come without its problems. They had three breakdowns along the way – one had a fuel problem and another two punctures.

The Veteran Car Rally Hull to Scarborough first took place in 1949. It ran until the mid-70s and did not take place again until 2007. Organ-isers hope for a bigger and better event next year which will take place around the same date.
